Warm, satisfying, and nourishing, this is one of my favorite casseroles. The chard adds vitamins, fiber, and color, balancing out the richness of the cheese and sausage. Plus, it’s convenient: you can make the whole thing ahead of time and pull it out to reheat 45 minutes before dinner.
For awhile, my kids weren’t into penne, and I discovered that using other pasta shapes worked just as well. You could also swap in gluten-free pasta - just make sure you don’t cook it too long on the stove before adding to the casserole, or you’ll end up with a mushy mess.
